Celebrate Authors 2009
A Celebration of the Literary Arts at Edison State College
The Peace River Center for Writers at Edison State College presents seven exciting days of
workshops, readings, and fellowship celebrating the written word.
Monday November 2 – Room SA 117 on the campus
1. Poetry workshop by Linda Mahshie and Story Boyle(5:30 to 6:30)
2. Poetry workshop by John Pelot (5:30 to 6:30) Using Imagery in Poetry
3. Poetry reading by Linda Mahshie and Steve Reilly (6:45 to 8:00)
Linda was the winner of the 2009 Rose Koshe award for poetry
Steve is a local journalist and published poet who presents his poetry with a special flair.
4. Refreshments and book sales will follow.
Tuesday November 3 – Auditorium on campus
1. Non Fiction workshop by Janice D’errico (5:45 to 6:30) Writing my first book
2. Excerpts from my novels by Natala Orobello (7:00 to 8:30)
Natala has written two novels

Wednesday November 4 – Auditorium on campus
1. Non-fiction workshop by Douglas Houck (5:00 to 5:45)
Presenting local history – report on The Illustrated History of Charlotte County
The Peace River Writers researching, writing and editing the Illustrated History of
Charlotte County for the Charlotte County Historical Society. The books should be
published and become available next year.
2. Joyce Schenk reading her work (6:30 to 7:30)
Joyce is a past president of the Peace River Writers who writes featured columns in a
number of newspapers and journals. She has also published two books.
3. Short Break for book signing, wine, and cheese
4. Open Mic and Coffee Shop in Room SA 117 (8:00 to 9:30)
Thursday November 5 – Auditorium on campus
1. College literary magazine release and small reception (6:30 to 7:00)
2. Presentations – Funding the Arts by Dr. Carol Roark (5:30 to 6:15 in SA117)
Finding Inspiration with Visual Art by Dr. Janice Jaen (5:00 to 6:15)
Friday November 6 – Hall of Fame Awards - Auditorium on Campus
1. Refreshments and presentation of awards (lobby of the auditorium 6:00 to 8:00)
a. Carol Mahler – Founder of Peace River Center for Writers
b. Michael Haymans – long time Board President
c. Joyce Schenk – Board Member, President, and long time Workshop Coordinator
Saturday November 7 – For “The Kids” Program and Workshops
An all day venue of writing workshops provided on campus for student writers grades 4 through
8.
Sunday November 8 – Celebrate Authors at Fisherman’s Village (12:00 to 5:00)
1. Local authors will be able to rent tables in the concourse at Fisherman’s village to sell and
display their books. Members of the Peace River Writers and affiliated local writer’s groups will
be able to rent a table for $10.00. Others may rent a table for $25.00. Arrangements must be
made by contacting Dawn Thomas at the Peace River Center for Writers by November 3,

2. Music and Open Mic readings will take place on the stage at Fisherman’s Village between 2:00
and 4:00 that afternoon.
