The Peace River Center for Writers, Inc., a non-profit corporation dedicated to writers and the written word, was established in Punta Gorda, Florida, on April 2, 2002. The Center is incorporated in the State of Florida as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, with IRS tax-exempt status approved on October 11, 2002.
Our Mission
To help people develop skill in using the written word in any form
To provide effective and timely support for writers
To provide educational, literary, and informational services and events
To encourage dialogue and communication among the public at large
To help promote a strong sense of community in Charlotte County and in Southwest Florida
The Center is an independent public organization that does not depend on university faculty or sponsorship. It offers assistance in all kinds of writing, and to writers of all backgrounds.
Formal courses such as seminars and workshops are offered in all aspects of writing, as well as individual tutorials, editing services, proofreading, and direct assistance to writers seeking publication. Frequent readings, presentations, and other literary events are scheduled throughout the year.
The Center officially "opened its doors" and commenced activities on July 1, 2002.
